(First Incarnation)
Per Oculus Insectorum (First Incarnation) offers a preliminary glimpse into a much larger artistic endeavor that will delve into the cautionary tales woven through human histories. Seen through the compelling perspective of insects, these photographs underscore a critical truth: as custodians of this planet, the consequences of our actions extend far beyond humankind. Visually, this series is influenced by American Traditional Tattooing and the rich symbolism of the Tarot Major Arcana. These pollinators have been illustrated in a flat, two-dimensional style, each depicted in a variation of lotus pose, and carefully matched with a Tarot card that resonates with their individual characteristics and symbolism. Each print is a gilded, solarized photogram, meticulously crafted by exposing a positive transparency and then flashing the photographic paper with a split second of light while still in developer.
