Photography has always captivated me by its ability to document history, advance scientific inquiry, and preserve those precious memories we all experience. From these principles, I looked to move beyond simple representation, diving into the expressive and often ethereal realm of fine art. My creative process for this series is an alchemical dance where the transformative power of light, the subtle nuances of natural spices, and reactive magic of chemistry interact in extraordinary and unexpected ways. Much like the scientific method, this series is driven by constant trial and error while balancing chemistry with aesthetics. To create these images, I combined the cyanotype and lumen printing processes to create what are called cyanolumens. Each Alstroemeria print is evidence of this intricate interplay, revealing the beautiful, yet inherently unpredictable outcomes of these chemical and light interactions. The resulting images are more than attempts at documenting the natural world, but are evocative whispers of Mother Earth’s idyllic beauty captured in a new, radiant form.
